Q.1 : We the cable operators deliver 60 channels on 750 MHz. We want to change our wire-cable system with MDDS or LMDS, what kind of equipment is required for it and what would be the cost of these equipments? (Iqbal Ahmed, Lahore)

Ans: Head end equipment is used to change wire-cable system with MDDS. Some years ago it was $10,000 per channel.

Q.2 : Due to the Gulf war, our customers have requested for the Al-Jazeera channel. But we can't receive it on the Arabsat 2A Satellite located at 26 deg. east. I am unable to receive this channel at chiplun in Maharashtra. How we will watch it? (Waqar by E-mail)

Ans: The Arabsat Satellite delivers signals to the middle east. The satellite has two sets of C band transponders. The lower power transponders don't cover India, while the high power C band cover parts of the western India. You would require a 12 to 16 ft. dish antenna to receive the signals.

Q.3 : I want to know how does the sunspot Solar activity effects the transmission resulting in freezing of channels for a few minutes daily every year. I would appreciate you if you educate me on this issue? (Mukhtar by E-mail)

Ans: The disruption of service for a few minutes each day is not especially due to Sun spot activity. It is because the sun shines directly behind the satellite on the dish antenna. As a result the Sun's heat completely over power the signal from the satellite. As a result the picture blanks out. When the sun moves, your satellite reception resumes.

Q.4 : I live in Haryana and the regular reader of ur Magazine. I want to know about the reception of signals from Sinosat and JC sat. Are these signals available in Haryana? (Ajay, Haryana)

Ans: The Sinosat is mainly intended to cover China, while the JC sat provides coverage for Japan. However the JC Sat is available in Haryana both at C-band and Ku-band

Q.5 : I am a cable operator in Rajasthan. I have a Ku-band universal LNB and 6ft. and 12ft. KU-band dish. I receive the Ku-band channel from Europstar at 45deg. East and LM1 at 75 deg. I have read in ur magazine that the Turksat satellite at 42 deg. east is received at the Indo-Pak border, Rajasthan and Gujrat. However, I am unable to receive the Turksat channel at 42 deg., Hotbird5 at 13 deg., Apstar 2R at 76.5 deg. and Express at 80 deg.? Is it possible to receive these satellite channels in Rajasthan? (Rahul, Rajasthan by E-mail)

Ans: Turksat and Eurasiasat are located at 42 deg. East. These satellite don't provide coverage for India from this location to Rajasthan. However by using 16ft. large dish they can be received. The Hotbird 3 from 13 deg. East provide coverage in Ku-band and is receivable by using 6 ft. or 8ft. dish. “Channel Guide” pages of our websites will help u to check details of these cannels. The Ku signals from the Apstar 2R at 76.5 deg. will not be receivable in Rajasthan you can receive the C-band signals very clearly by using 8 ft. dish.

Q.6 : I have a 8 ft. dish with C-band and LNB and a winersat Digi box 500 Digital Receiver. Tell me how I will receive Action and Fashion & Style TV channel signals through these equipments from NSS-703 satellite? (Arnold, India)

Ans: The channels mentioned by u are currently transmitting only test signals. They are on the same transponder as Lashkara and Gurjari TV, i-e 3886 with SR of 16277 and FEC 1/2. You would need to use a Feedhorn capable of circular polarized signals.

Q.7 : I am a regular reader of your magazine. These days I am facing problems in my satellite system during day time the signal quality is functioning well, but at night the signal does not work properly? (Sajid, Karachi)

Ans: Please get your Coaxial cable replaced, because during day time the temperature is high, while at night the temperature is quite low. This variation causes loss of quality of the cable. You should get ur cable parts checked offer every six months.

Q.8 : We are cable operators and are based in Peshawar. We want to add up multichoice I showtime package in our system. Can we receive this package here and what will be the size of the dish? (Rehman Shah, Peshawar)

Ans: You can receive both the packages in Peshawar from same satellite Panamsat-4, Multichoice is on c-band and ShowTime is on Ku band to receive multichoice. You need at least 16ft. dish and for Showtime you will have a 8ft. solid dish.

Q.9 : I am a regular reader of your magazine. But writing to you for the first time. I have a supermax 8ft. digital receiver. We want to receive KU bands channels of turkey, but are unable to receive them. How many other channels are in Turkey? (M. Abdullah, Rahimabad)

Ans: You may watch from ur digital receiver the two turks channels, TRT Feeds and Turk Telecom Feeds. To watch these channels, the frequency should be set at 11,088 V and 11,166 V.

Q.10 : Dear Sir, can a digital satellite receiver be used for receiving analog signal also. (Junaid, Swat)

Ans: Dear Junaid, Except for the first stage, all the other stages of a digital receiver are very different from the analog receiver. For this purpose a digital receiver can’t be used for receiving the analog signals. It is easier to align the dish by using the analog receiver for receiving the analog channels.
