Digital Telecom DB 9

Normally, a TV Company issues a smart card that allows your Satellite Receiver to unscramble their channels. This is called 'Conditional Access'. The new Digital Telecom DB 9 has just arrived here at our test centre. Infact Digital Telecom has shown the capacity of brand leader in receivers. DB 9 is very well made product with attention paid to its useful features.

The front panel of DB 9 Receiver is simply designed. Three buttons are located in the middle of the box in order to control the box, incase the remote control is missing. It shows the current channel number and time in a stand by mode. The front panel window display is situated on the left side of the receiver. The rear panel is equipped a TV and VCR scart connectors, Serial Interface RS-232 for uploading a new receiver software, RCA jacks and IF out put. After selecting all parameters and language setting, the user enters in the Installation menu. Here you will first select your desired satellite. There will be a complete list of satellites on your screen. You can edit, add or delete satellite list. You will find small icons below every menu representing various functions.

After three minutes and five seconds, 998 TV and 522 Radio channels were searched. It was one of the fastest searches from Telecom. For more experienced users, there is also a manual PID entry. In nearly every menu, the video of the current channel is displayed in a window. The scanned channels can be delete, rename, sort and moved to one of the 16 favourite lists for easier recall later time. The outstanding feature of DB 9 Receiver is the picture in picture (PIP) feature. You can watch two channels on same time From 1 tuner and one package. A receiver has a main, or regular, display; a picture-in-picture display; and an on-screen menu display for adjusting various television operating parameters, including those which are channel or source related, such as channel labeling, source labeling and on-screen program guide operation. When a channel or source related menu is displayed for operation on channel or source related functions, the channel or source operated upon is displayed in the picture-in-picture display and the main display may be blanked to present a more legible background for the menu.

DB 9 Receiver also supports multi video display function. The receiver splits the channels in 4,9,10,13 and 16 pictures. When it becomes complete, the first channel goes on start. It is also important here to mention the Zoom function of the receiver. It will enable you to view closer the on screen picture. EPG information is accessible with the push of a button. The built in Teletext decoder helps display this service on monitors or older TV sets. The receiver has fast channel switching.
