Dynavision CX-991

Dynavision has shown why they are the brand leader in receivers. CX-991 Digital Satellite Receiver is very well made product with attention paid to its useful features. The receiver works well and has good sensitivity and sound is as good as one should expect from a small receiver.

The front panel of the receiver has only three buttons using for various functions of the receiver. As it is a free to air receivers, so no CAM or slots are used. The front panel window has a curved shape. It shows the current channel number and time in a stand by mode. The rear panel is equipped with two scart connectors for TV and VCR, S/PDIF output for digital audio, RS-232 for uploading a new receiver software, RCA jacks, programmable 12 volt output and IF out put. The remote control has excess to all the buttons easily and will sit nicely in your hand.

As soon as you will turn on the receiver for the first time, it will ask you to select the language you are using. The user can communicate with the receiver in English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Nederland, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Greek and Turkey. You can define menu language, alternative audio language and subtitle language. You can also change the language on main menu later on. Once you had selected all the setting, you will have to press the Next button located on the bottom of every menu to move ahead.

The Dynavision CX-991 has enough capacity to store 5000 TV and Radio channels memory and 64 updated satellites from worldwide. All of the current settings for the selected satellite are shown in a window on the right side. Here you cannot only select the local oscillator frequency (LOF), the DiSEqC settings or activate a Network scan, but you can also view the signal strength and quality in a spectrum analyzer display for every transponder from the selected satellite. The receiver supports DiSEqC 1.0, 1.2 and USALAS protocols, so owners of Motorized antennas will be quite happy with Dynavision CX-991.

CX-991 will never disappoint you while searching for channels. As many as 1012 TV and 478 Radio channels were found in 3 minutes. It is one of the fast scanning by Dynavision receivers. You can use manual search if you want to add new transponders. The receiver has also the facility of Advanced search. It performs manual search with the ability to set PID values. It is normally efficient to search some specific channel such as non-DVB compliant channel or the channel that has abnormal service information. The scanned channels can be delete, rename, sort and moved to one of the eight favourite lists for easier recall later time. Each favourite list has the ability to store 100 channels. The channel list can be displayed on the screen by pressing the find button on the remote control.

The electronic program guide (EPG) is available that shows informations for on screen channel. It is fast and well designed. As in every other menu, help is also shown at the bottom of screen explaining each buttons' function. Children can be keep away fro adult channels with the help of Parental Control function. The timer function is one of the unique character of Dynavision CX-991. You can programme the receiver to start or stop at a preferred a time. The timer function is very useful when you want to reserve wake-up time, sleep time or automatic start.

Symbolrates starting at the rate of 2.45ms/sec were processed easily during our tests. Reception of SCPS and MCPC signals is an easy job. The TV scart connector delivers video signals in RGB and CVBS format. Audio and video quality leaves nothing to be desired. The receiver switches automatically between PAL and NTSC signals. The receiver supports video format in 4:3 and 16:9 format. Teletext informations are available for those channels having Tele-Text.

Nearly all features that you may expect in a free to air receiver is present in a Dynavision CX-991. The EPG and all the menus are user-friendly, easy to operate and look nice. Channel switching is really fast. Channel search function was somewhat slow.
