Satellite receivers have got a boom recently. New satellites are launched and channels are going on-air. Manufacturers are preparing new receivers, equipped with latest technology and software. Open Star has launched their new receiver named CAT-01, which is a complete FTA receiver.

CAT-01 FTA Receiver front panel is designed very simple. It features only three buttons. The front panel window display is situated in the middle of the box. It shows the current channel number through a four digit display and time in a stand by mode. As soon as you will turn on the rear panel, you will found a Serial Interface RS-232 for software upgrade, RCA jacks, RF Modulator and a main power switch. The remote control with its elegant labeled buttons will get an easy access to all the functions. The manual supplied with the box is clearly written in English.

When you will turn on the CAT-01 FTA Receiver for the first time, it will show the main menu. The user may select an OSD language and a satellite here. The receiver supports DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 protocols. CAT-01 has the capacity to store 3500 TV and Radio channels.

There are two methods for channel search, respectively Auto Search and Network Search. After moving highlight on auto search menu icon and press OK button and you can find out a parameter here. You can also adjust channel search information. If you press OK button on the way of this, this will start to search. You can select your favourite satellite here for scanning. You can also select FTA or FTA+CA channels for searching. The Network Search will find all those channels left from Auto Search. We select a Nilesat Satellite for scanning. 349 TV and 212 Radio channels were found in 3 minutes. As soon as the scanning is completed, the receiver automatically saves the channels and goes on the first channel found. Manual PID entry is also possible.

You can select the TV or Radio channel list by using FAV key for selecting the favourite channel list. You can move the channel to the position you required, press OK on the remote control, then the present channel colour will be changed at this time. The receiver uses symbolrates starting at the rate of 2.45ms/sec. It switches automatically between PAL and NTSC signals.

You can press EPG key button on the live mode. EPG of the current channel will appear on your screen. Every time you press the info button on the remote control, the programme information will be displayed for a few seconds, including current time, channel name, information about current programme and symbolrates.
