Test Report for Technosat TS 350 HDMI

Technosat TS 350 HDMI

A satellite receiver for receiving free-to-air HD transmissions has been released by Technosat, named TS 350 HDMI.

The TS 350 HDMI allows the viewer to watch High Definition MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 or standard definition programmes at the best possible quality. The TS 350 HDMI has an auto set up feature, which enables it to be easily configured for use with most types of display – SD or HD - together with various connector types to provide simple connection to the latest display technology. In addition, the TS 350 HDMI can output High Definition content to a HDMI display and simultaneously output in re-formatted Standard Definition to a second TV or VCR using the SCART, composite and s-video outputs.

The front panel of TS 350 HDMI deserves full marks. On the front panel you will find an extremely easy to read VFD display as well as a flap on the right side. There are three buttons on the front panel. The rear panel of TS 350 HDMI is equipped with TV scart connector, programmable 12 volt out put, HDMI output, RCA jacks, serial interface RS-232 and a power button. The included remote control is beautifully designed and sits nicely in your hand with buttons that are clearly labeled. The manual is clearly written in English; it is logically written and explains every function of this receiver in easy to understand steps.

The new TS 350 HDMI receiver is definitely multi-lingual in terms of the on-screen menu languages. There are plenty of languages for communication. Every user will find an easy language of his own choice. The video signal can be delivered via Scart in RGB and CVBS modes. Additionally, multiple modes are available for the 4:3 and 16:9 screen sizes. Along with the PAL standard, the receiver can also handle NTSC signals and can even be set to automatically switch between the two standards. A motorized antenna (DiSEqC 1.0, 1.2 or 1.3/USALS) can be set up directly in the installation assistant. During the installation, it is actually quite easy with a single push of a button to set up the LNB and DiSEqC parameters for each individual satellite. And unlike many receivers from other manufacturers, this new TS 350 HDMI receiver actually comes with a programmable 0/12V output that can also be set up for each individual satellite.

The receiver offers an automatic scan, a blind scan and an expanded search with manual PID entry. Of course, a network scan is also possible as is scanning for only free-to-air (FTA) channels. Technosat TS 350 HDMI has the capacity to store 5000 TV and Radio channels. After a brief push of the red function button, the TS 350 HDMI begins to scan the selected satellites and completed scanning our 110 transponders in a blinding 4 min 20 sec. The searched channels can be can be deleted, moved, renamed, locked out with a PIN code or transferred into one of four favourites lists. The detailed channel list can be activated by pushing the OK button. With the help of the function buttons, the list can be arranged by tuner and FTA/CAS and also be sorted alphabetically. When switching between channels, an Info bar appears momentarily and displays information on the current and upcoming program as well as specific channel data (teletext, subtitle, Dolby Digital audio, etc.) and information on the satellite in use. A second push of the OK button displays expanded EPG data on the current programme as long as this information is made available by the provider. Another push of this button displays technical parameters for the channel such as frequency, polarization, symbolrate and PIDs. There is also a USB 2.0 interface in order to connect the receiver with a PC. You may share files between the receiver and PC with the help of USB 2.0.
