Test Report for OPENTEL ODS 4000 CIV


The ODS 4000 CIV from Opentech is something unique. Its silvery color adds more stimulation to its popularity. It will really convince you better.

The display is situated on the front panel. It has four buttons for receiver operation and standby button. The two CI slots and the two card readers are protected from dust by a flap. The rear panel has every possible connection. The IF signal from the LNB is looped. It can be routed to a second receiver. The scart connectors deliver video and analog stereo audio for a TV and VCR. Non-scart connectors are for those regions of the world, there are three RCA Jacks that provide video and audio outputs. An optical digital audio output is for these that have a Dolby Digital system. The ODS 4000 CIV come with an S-VHS output, but unfortunately it does not. The serial interface is use for the uploading of new receiver software.

In order to communicate with the ODS 4000 CIV, you must first select the menu language. You may communicate in English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Italian, Russian, Turkish, Dutch Czech and Polish. It makes it useable every where in the world. The selection of languages is available for the audio carriers. 16:9, 4:3 and letterbox picture formats are available. It is not a problem to find a pre programmed satellite. 53 of them are offered from around the world. The ODS 4000 CIV comes with 4000 channels. This receiver is easy to be controlled with a motorized antenna. It is quite fast. You will first only need to decide whether all channels, only free to air (FTA) or only encoded channels should be stored. A manual scan is performed by an additional menu page. If you are looking for a particular transponder, a network search can be selected. You may set the additional satellites in a menu. Unwanted satellites can be deleted and the antenna configuration as well as transponders can be edited, others can be moved, blocked from the kids or sorted either alphabetically or by satellite. Switching from one channel to another is fast. It is a perfect channel surfing machine. The ODS 4000 CIV comes with eight favourites lists. It has the facility for every member of home to have own personal list for quick and easy access to the channels of their choice. You may give a name to every list. A push of the OK button brings up to channel list for one or all satellites on the TV screen. The video of the current channel is displayed in an insert. It also shows information about frequency, encryption, symbol rate, FEC. The Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) shows detailed information of upcoming programmes. This service is not supported have unfortunately. Integrated teletext decoder is an additional source of information. You may pause the picture inorder if you are not getting to get the clear picture. Here the image will stay longer as you needed. If you are feeling bore and there is nothing for watch, the video games will really amuse you.

It has an excellent menu structure. It has more than enough channel space for use on a motorized system. The fast channel switching and scanning made it extraordinary. Dolby Digital output and NTSC/PAL compatibility. It has a master PIN code function.
