|Fortec Star Life Time Ultra
The new version of Fortec Star will just take 12 minutes for the scanning of most channels. It is a Free To Air (FTA) receiver. It is specially designed for the reception of free to air signals. The current channel number is shown by the front panel, that has a large display. It also shows the time. User can operate the receiver with the help of three buttons. Two scart connectors and three RCA Jacks provide video and analogue stereo audio outputs. One may use the fourth RCA Jack for the programmable 0/12 Volt output. The UHF modulator works definitely in all the PAL as well as NTSC. One may upload the new receiver software through the serial interface.
One may assume it also a FTA receiver from the outside. The available menu languages are English, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Turkish and Russian. The installation begins with the selection of satellites and the corresponding channel scan. This low priced receiver can also be used by normal users. There are 54 up-to-date preprogrammed satellites between 169° east and 45.5° west. New satellites can also be added manually. One may store 3000 channels. The normal user can operate it easily. Every possible LNB with its corresponding local oscillator frequency (LOF) can be accepted, also for the C-band. The automatic search is also possible for FTA only. For advanced scan, signal strength and signal quality bar graphs are visible. One may play here the PID’s for video, audio and PCR. The edit menu helps to organize all of the newly found channels. Popular channels can be distributed among the five favourites lists. In order to keep the kids away from adult channels, channels can be locked out.
The switching between channels is too much fast. It just take 0.5 seconds to switch from one channel to another. You may up the time of signals via the remote control. With the help of info button, one can reveal the parameters, information on frequency, symbol rate and PID’s. The electronic programme guide (EPG) provides more detailed informations about the upcoming programmes. There is also an 8-event timer to schedules recordings f programme on a VCR.
The blind scan feature is especially important whenever information on a satellite is missing. New channels may be find before the announcing. Blind scan is a feature that searches a satellite for any and all symbol rates in small frequency steps. With some blind scan receivers and DVB cards for a PC, this work can take some time. In such a situation many feeds may have already been turned off. In crises situation, the corresponding feed signal can quality be found using the blind scan features.
The blind scan function in the Fortec Star is called “Power Scan”. Same is the case with automatic scan. The user will have to select first the FTA, All N All+data should be searched for. The polarization level should be selected next. It will take 12 minutes to scan HotBird position. An additional six minutes is also needed to actually select the transponders that were found. The feed hunter is another helpful feature. It however only low symbol rates are scaned for, the entire task is completed in about six minutes. Thus for no blind scan receiver has ever been able to reach this speed. This receiver is able to find more channels.
The extraordinary feature of Fortec Star is the graphic display. The MCPC and SCPC signals are displayed in block from on two lines: one for horizontal and the other for vertical signals. It all looks like a transponder layout of a satellite. Incase the satellite is already searched, then the blind scan would only add new signals to the list that were not previously found.
The Fortec Star Life Time Ultra has a high speed. It is FTA receiver and an extremely fast blind scan receiver that could even find the smallest signal. It is an ideal family receiver. It delivers data to the terminal programe and it has all the capacity for few extra channels.
