Test Report for Truman TM 8000CI

Truman TM 8000CI

After coming back from Eid holidays, a new receiver of Truman was waiting for me at my desk. It got my attention and eye attraction on first view. The combination of black and silver colors adds attraction to the receiver. There are five buttons on the front panel of the receiver used for various functions. The front panel display is situated in the middle of the receiver. It shows the current channel number and time in a stand by mode. The rear panel has all those connections which others ordinary receivers have. Two scart connectors, RCA jacks, serial interface RS-232 for uploading a new receiver software, S/PDIF and a main power switch for turning on and off the receiver completely. As does the receiver itself, its remote control design deserves a compliment. It is elegant, lightweight and sits nicely in hand.

As soon as you will turn on the receiver for the first time, you are asked to choose the correct language. The choice is very limited. You may select among English, Arabic, Persian, French, Russian and Spanish. The Truman 8000CI comes preprogrammed with 4000 TV and Radio channels. 32 updated satellites from world wide are already included in the receiver. All the local oscillator frequencies for C and KU-band are preprogrammed. The receiver supports DiSEqC 1.2 protocol. Owners of multifeed antennas should use it without any problem. After selecting all frequencies, satellite and transponders, it is time to set up the channel search. You can do that in two ways: automatically or manually. Manual PID entry is also possible. In automatic search, you can search all those channels offered by the satellite for which your antenna has been configured. Network channel search is also available for those channels remained from automatic search. 436 TV and 229 Radio channels of Hotbird satellite were found in 3 minutes and 24 seconds. After the complete scanning, the receiver first saves the channels and then turned on the first channel found. Channels may be arranged alphabetically or in a A to Z format.

Pressing the OK button will display the channel list on your screen. If you press the OK button on the desired channel, you can watch the channel on your TV screen. The found channels can be put in one of 3 favorite lists, renamed, moved, deleted or locked with PIN if children should not watch them. Channels can be rearranged in every favourite list (you can change their position) and a list itself can be renamed. Channel zapping speed is absolutely acceptable. It is well below one second. Everything.

that you need is included in it: channel name and number, program title, short description, start and end time, current channel list name, signal strength and quality bar graphs and a set of icons. Symbolrates starting at the rates of 1.45ms/sec were processed during our tests. Reception of SCPS and MCPS signals will really impress you.

You can see not only Free to Air Channels, but also scrambled channels through Truman 8000CI. It supports Irdeto, Viaccess, Nagravision, Conax, Crytoworks and Mediaguard. It also supports CI of two slots. The Electronic Programme Guide will display informations about the on screen channel. It is fast and well designed. All information that you may need is either displayed right from the beginning or after just a single button press.

You can make the favourite channel grouping and Adult channel function in a channel properties menu. If you want to watch the locked TV channels, just enter the password and watch all those, which you desire. The Info bar that appears for a user for number of seconds when switching to another channel or when the Info button is pushed on the remote, displays the channel number and name as well as the satellite with transponder frequency and symbols for FTA/CAS, teletext, audio options and parental controls.

The menus are clearly laid out and permit quick and easy navigation to the individual submenus. The overall design, with its background colors and outlines, is a very pleasant experience and all of the functions in the TM 8000 CI. Even if your TV does not support the Teletext, you can see the Teletext contents by OSD.

Nearly all features that you may expect in a receiver are present in TM 8000CI. The EPG and all the menus are user-friendly, easy to navigate and look nice. Channel switching is really fast. The User Manual is well written and has a lot of pictures.
