Digital Television can be very confusing subject to the mind. Many people are surprised to learn that a difference exists between Digital Television and High Definition Television. Many consumers simply do not know the difference. A typical digital satellite receiver for reception of free satellite TV was never really offered with unlimited characteristics like Star Track. The company has introduced a new model 550 D Digital Satellite Receiver for reception of free to air digital satellite channels.

The front panel of 550 D is designed simply. There are total seven buttons on the front panel of the receiver for various functions and operations on the unit. Since this is a free to air receiver, so there is no CI slots for pay TV reception. The four digit green display shows the current channel number and time in a stand by mode. The rear panel is equipped with a TV scart connector, RS-232 serial interface for uploading a new receiver software, programmable 0/12 volt output, RCA jacks, IF loop through and a main power switch for switching on and off the receiver. The remote control is blessed with small and curved buttons having easy access to all the functions. The receiver whole out look will give you a nice and positive impression.

After connecting the receiver and turning on it for the first time, the main menu will appear on your screen. The main menu consist channel, installation, setting, game and accessory. The first thing is the language selection. The user can communicate with the receiver in English, French, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Greek, Albanian, Polish, Ukraine, German, Italian, Spanish, Czech, Portuguese and Dutch. The receiver supports the DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 protocol. The more comfortable DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS) is unfortunately not included. If you are the owner of a multifeed antenna, you will be happy to know that this box comes with a programmable 0/12-volt output. All the local oscillator frequencies for C-band and Ku-band are preprogrammed. The receiver comes with 3000 stored channels and 60-update satellites worldwide. Both the PAL and NTSC standards are supported, as is the automatic switching between the two. The video signal is provided in RGB and CVBS.

Along with the automatic search, the network search is also possible. You may search for free or all channels. We scan the Hotbird satellite first and found 476 TV and 191 Radio channels in 4 minutes. After the complete scanning, the receiver does not turn on the first channel found. The network search will found those channels remained from automatic scanning. Manual PID entry is also possible. Pushing the OK button brings the channel list, while pressing the OK button again brings the picture closer to you. If you need to bring some organization to the channel list, this can be done via the channel manager. Here channels can be deleted, renamed or moved in to the favourite list for easy recall later time, while those channel inappropriate for kids can be locked out with a PIN code.

The infobar is momentarily displayed while switching from one channel to another having the satellite name, channel name and frequency. The Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) quickly lists detailed information on all current and future programming content. The installed tuner is very sensitive. Switching between channels is very fast.
