METABOX Digital Satellite Receiver

The manufacturers of digital satellite receivers are now trying to make as small receivers as possible. The Metabox is one of the few receivers available now anywhere in the world that has reliable operating system. It has an attractive and appealing design that will fit easily anywhere in the living room. There are seven buttons on the front panel through which the entire receiver can be controlled. Metabox is a simple FTA receiver. CI slots or card readers are not to be found.

The rear pane is nicely equipped. One scart connector, a satellite IF input with looped through output, three RCA Jacks for video and stereo audio, RS-232 for uploading a new receiver software, power switch, S/PDIF and a coxial digital audio output. The remote control is cheap looking with small and curved buttons, and therefore difficult to reach.

Like most other receivers, Metabox also comes with preprogrammed channels. The receiver can communicate in English, Arabic, Danish, Nederland, Farsi, Spanish, French, Deutsch, Indonesian, Italian, Norsh, Polish, Portuguese, Roman, Pyccenn, Hrvatshi and Turkey.

The video signal can be delivered in PAL and NTSC. The receiver can supply an RGB or CVBS signal via the TV scart connector. 70 satellites are preprogrammed into the receiver with up to date data. Additional satellites can be manually set up. The Metabox supports DiSEqC 1.0, 1.2 and USALS protocol. The receiver comes with a programmable 0/12-volt output. It is not DiSEqC 1.1 compatible. A veriety of LOF values are preprogrammed and unusual values can be entered manually. Metabox comes preprogrammed with 5000 TV and radio channels. Pressing the i button displays the programmes information about current broadcasting on the screen. It displays channel number, channel name, satellite name, current time and date. Press i button again to see extended information includes transponder information, single bar etc in details.

The channel search menu is easy to use and very clearly arranged. After selecting your desired satellite, a single search or multi-satellite search can be performed. After that you will have to select your search mode. Whether you are interested for All channels, FTA only, NIT All and NIT FTA channels. A network scan can also be activated. As with most other receivers, the manual PID entry is also available. The scan of an 80-transponder satellite needed 10 minutes. After all channels have been scanned and saved into the receiver, the box switches automatically to the first stored channel. Pushing the OK button brings the channel list on your screen. The EPG is logically designed and shows in standard mode the data from Seven channels.

The Metabox comes with ten event-timer that can be programmed directly from the EPG. Weekly and daily timers are also supported.

If you are not satisfied with the channel list, you can set it up to your personal preferences in the proper menu section. Channels can be renamed, deleted, moved or transferred into the favourite lists. Channels not suitable for kids can be locked out with a pin code. The channel switching time is one second. The picture format is 4:3 / 16:9. The integrated teletext decoder allows this services to be displayed even on monitors and older TV sets that don’t have a decoder of their own. The zoom function will take you at a close look of your favourite actor.

If you still end up bored even with all of these features, you can entertain yourself with the built-in-video games. The Metabox is an easy to use receiver even for the beginners. It is a very reliable and a friendly receiver.
