|SKY COM SCM-7700 FTA Digital Satellite Receiver
We are living in a digital world, where we face changes every where and in every field. Satellite industry is a very vast and unlimited field. Two months later, we published the test report of SCM-9900 and it caught the readers interest. Now we have another model of SKYCOM called SCM-7700, which is completely a free to air digital satellite receiver.
The SCM-7700 has very attractive design. Five buttons on the front panel of the receiver are used for complete operation of the receiver. The four digit display shows either the current channel or the current mode. You may control the receiver fully with the front panel buttons, in case the remote control is out of order. There are no CI slots.
The rear panel of the receiver has been designed like the most other receivers. It is equipped with two scart connectors, three RCA jacks, an optical digital audio output, an RS-232 interface for uploading a new receiver software and 0/12 volt out put for multifeed antennas. The remote control has easy access to all of the receiver’s functions and it will sit nicely in your hands. The complete workmanship of this receiver is very eye-catching.
After connecting the receiver to all of the external connections, the user will have first to select the language of his own choice. SKY COM comes with an international selection of Ten languages. The SCM-7700 has very up-to-date data from the satellites around all over the world. It has the enough capacity for 4,000 TV and radio channels. If one is not satisfied with the stored channels, he may download now channels of his choice. Selecting the local oscillator frequency (LOF) for C and Ku-band satellites is an easy job for SKY COM. The receiver switches automatically between PAL and NTSC signals without any delay. The receiver delivers video signals through TV scart connector in CVBS and RGB formate. The picture formate is 4:3 and 16:9.
SCM-7700 has STi 5518 chip for fast scanning. It supports DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 protocol. So four LNB’s can be used easily with this receiver. You may have an option for FTA channels, all NIT plus data, NIT FTA, all transponders, all transponders plus data or just FTA transponders. A manual scan is also possible. SCPC and MCPC signals starting at the rate of 1.45 ms/sec were handled easily during our tests. It was really a surprising event. You may edit the individual transponders and satellites. The installed tuner is really sensitive. The current time can be set manually or enter in the time difference. There is also a PID’s scan facility for more experience users.
The unwanted channels can be deleted into the channel organization list. Other can be sorted, renamed, locked and moved into one of the favourite list for easier recall later time. The video of the current channel appears as an insert in the menus.
Switching from one channel to another is very fast. A push of the OK button brings the channel list. The channel list is designed nicely. The receiver is based on window 95/98/2000 and is able to upload and download. The Electronic Programme Guide deliver information for on screen channel as well as upcoming programmes. You may have an option for channel list directly during normal operation. There are symbols displayed at the bottom of the channel list that can be directly accessed through remote control. The channel list can be sorted alphabetically. Channels not suitable for kids can be locked through parental control function. The EPG data is very properly displayed. The included event timer will never let you to miss your favourite drama. The S/PDIF support will really give you a worthy touch. It shows good results for free to air channels. This is perfectly MPEG-2 DVB free to air receiver.
The on screen display (OSD) of SCM-7700 is very logically designed. It is handy receiver. Fast chip, very sensitive tuner, easy menu, fast channel changing speed, enough channel memory, Dolby Digital S/PDIF and the list goes on.
