Test Report for TECHNOSAT T-888 Digital Satellite Receiver

TECHNOSAT T-888 Digital Satellite Receiver

Reach the skies and enjoy the ultimate experience in Free To Air (FTA) digital satellite programming. Technosat have the most technologically advanced digital satellite receivers available on the market to day at any price range. Its state of the art technology with easy to use multilingual user interface coupled with its ultra sensitive tuners allows you to enjoy watching digital satellite reception within minutes of opening your receiver. The T-888 free to air digital satellite receiver is now on our test desk.

T-888 is small in size and looks beautiful. Technosat has shrunk to a size that is very pleasing to the eye. The three buttons on the front panel permit channel selection direct on the receiver and also the operation of the standby button. The easy to read four digit display shows the channel number and the time in standby mode.

ON the rear panel is the connection for the LNB input as well as the looped through output for a second receiver. The video can be provided to a monitor either from the one scart connector or the RCA Jacks. 0/12 volt output is unfortunately missing. Excellent audio for the Dolby Digital System is provided by the optical S/PDIF output. The RS-232 interface serves to upload new receiver software. For older TV sets there is also a modulator Ch-21-69. The silver colored remote control has a number of different colored buttons for critical functions and is logically designed. With just the push of a button, the FTA channel list can be displayed.

After connecting the T-888 to all of the external connections, it greets you with the installation menu. The available menu languages are English, Italian, Turkish, German, French, Russian and Arabic. The receiver comes preprogrammed with 88 satellites from around the world. Additional satellites can be added if needed. 4,000 channels and this is just enough for these satellites. There are no problems while selecting the local oscillator frequency (LOF). All of the standard values for C-band and Ku-band are provided. The satellites are sorted alphabetically. Additional parameters such as DiSEqC, FTA, 22 KHz and LNB power can be manually changed. Under the same menu, additional satellites can be programmed, while existing ones can be renamed.

Now it is the time to start scanning. We scanned the Hotbird satellite first and found 252 TV channels 55 radio channels in just three minutes. These channels can be moved into one of the favourite list and can be sorted, renamed, deleted or blocked via the integrated parental control.

Channel surfing is quite fast. A push of the info button provides data on the channel’s provider, satellite, frequency, PID’s, EPG and parental lock in an on-screen display. For detailed information on the current programme, push the info button a second time. The receiver supports DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 protocol. This receiver can be easily used with motorized and multifeed antenna. Unfortunately the most user friendly DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS) is missing. The user is clearly guided through all the menus with manual receiver PID settings available to the more experienced users.

T-888 switches easily between PAL and NTSC. The receiver receives SCPC and MCPC signals easily starting at the rate of 2.45Ms/sec. A push of the OK button brings up the stored channel list. A multi-picture display can show 4 to 16 channels at the same time. As soon as all of the channels are displayed, the first image continues live with picture and audio. Using the arrow buttons of remote control, the user can select the other images.

Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) is accessible with the push of a button. It is only available for on screen channel information. If the programme is too long the text scrolls through from begening to end. The built in teletext decoder helps display this service on monitors or TV’s that don’t have their own TT decoder. The video ignals is available in RGB and CVBS format. The receiver is fully MPEG II / DVB compliant. The pause button of remote control will stop the favourite photo of your hero, while the zoom function will bring it closer to your eye. The picture in graphic feature will show you all the menus. You may easily recall your favourite and previous channel with just he push of a button. And if there is nothing interesting to watch on TV, you could always opt to play one of the built-in video games.

The T-888 is a very successful receiver. It offers fast and sensational channel scanning with brilliant audio (S/PDIF) and outstanding video. The installation and operation of this box is very easy. 88 satellites, 4000 channels, DiSEqC 1.0,1.2 will made this receiver the winning one. Locating new satellites is made very easy. PAL and NTSC guarantee its worldwide use. With the multi-picture feature, there is no need of switching between channels.
