STARSAT SR-X3300CU Digital Satellite Receiver

From the beginning of satellite TV broadcasting, STARSAT was and stills a star name in satellite TV reception systems. Established in 1991 with 25 years experience in electronic domain. Successfully introduced STARSAT brand with its wide range of satellite receivers and equipment biggest range ever in all market. However STARSAT in 1998 introduced it’s first digital satellite receiver in many features and specifications. The company recently hit the marked with their latest receiver called SR-X3300CU, which is I slot universal embedded.

The SR-X3300 CU has an elegant design. Its cabinet is simply an ornament for every TV environment. Most especially is the easy-to-read display on the left side of the front panel, which shows the channel number, error message, remote control commands and time in standby mode. Channel, Power and volume buttons are on the right side of the front panel, but as soon as you will open the flap on the right corner, you will also find menu, OK and Exit buttons. In this way the front panel have all the operative buttons of the receiver. There are also two CI slots for pay TV reception hidden behind a flap.

The rear connector panel comes with all of the standard Jacks you would expect to find. IF input (satellite dish input), Loop (IF-loop through output to second receiver), To TV (for connecting on RF cable to the aerial input of a TV, ANT IN (for a terrestrial TV aerial), RS-232 C serial port (to read and load data information), Audio L/R RCA Connectors (Stereo outputs for connection to a HiFi system), 0/12 (for connection to a 0/12 switch box), video RCA connector (composite video output), TV Scart (for connection to a TV), VCR Scart (for connection to a VCR), Main leads and power on/off switch.

Communicating with this receiver should not be a problem. The available OSD languages are eight including English, German, French, Russian, Arabic, Polish, Persian and Turkish. And if this is still not good, additional languages can be added to the list. Menu transparency and menu time out can be adjusted to your personal tastes. There are no limits for selection of correct local oscillator frequency. All known values for the C-band and Ku-band are directly selectable. Numerous satellites are preprogrammed with up-to-date data. The receiver supports the DiSEqC protocol 1.2 and 1.3. Owners of DiSEqC motors should have no problems controlling their antennas with this receiver. The DiSEqC 1.1 protocol for control of large multifeed antennas is unfortunately no to be found. The SR-X3300CU has the capacity to store 6000 channels of TV and radio. Whether it is a single antenna, a multifeed or motorized antenna, the spectrum feature graphically displays the signal strength and quality of the entire satellite’s spectrum. It makes the antenna process a complete fun.

With the automatic channel scan you have the choice of scanning one satellite or multiple satellites plus you can also choose to search for all channels, for FTA channels or for networks. Even if the scan is for all channels, you can simply push the button and can select between FTA and CAS. As soon as the channel scan is completed, the receiver switches to the first channel that is found. A push of the OK button displays the current channel list, while the video of the current channel is displayed in a small window. We scanned the Hotbird satellite first and found 253 channels of TV and 53 radio channels in one minute and thirty four seconds. The receiver supports 1000 transponder data. As with most other receiver, the channel list in the SR-X 3300CU can be sorted alphabetically or buy satellite. The remote control is nicely designed and sets well in hand.

Both 4:3 and 16:9 picture formats are also available. The video signal can be supplied in RGB and CVBS. Unfortunately, S-Video and YUV are missing. The receiver is MPEG-2 digital and fully DVB compliant. The receiver switches automatically between PAL and NTSC.

The edit menu serves to organize everything that has been found. Channels can e delete, move, rename and sorted. Experienced user will be happy with the manual PID entry capability. Popular channels can be moved into one of the eight favourite group list, so that they may be easily recalled later time. It needs simply the push of a button. Programming information is provided by the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). Adult channels may be locked with the help of parental control function, so that the kids may be keep away from inappropriate programmes.

The display of Teletext is based on transmitted data using the EBU teletext specification and DVB bitmap. It is available only when the current channel carries teletext service data. VBI insertion mode and OSD mode are supported. If the current channel provides subtitles, you can see the symbol indication in the channel information box. Press the OK button to view subtitles after selecting one of languages in the language selection menu. When in TV mode, Exit key will freeze the screen and goes to zoom function. OK key enables increase and decrease in size. The receiver also supports the picture-in-graphics functions. The sleep timer function is a unique feature today. Switching between channels is quite fast making channel surfing fun. The most important functions can be directly accessed via the remote control. And if all of this is still not good enough, you could access the integrated videogames.
