Test Report for TRUMAN TM150 FTA + CAS Digital Satellite Receiver

TRUMAN TM150 FTA + CAS Digital Satellite Receiver

TRUMAN brand with its wide range of satellite receivers and equipment biggest range ever in all market. Truman offer optimistic and futuristic systems that comply with different market segment in quality, specification and opportunities. The first digital signal that revolutionized the industry and marked the beginning of a new era. The Truman TM150 is the latest mark to all their products.

As you would expect from Truman, the cabinet is sleek and elegant in its design. With the seven buttons on the front panel, the critical functions of this receiver can be accessed. Truman, compared to many other manufacturers did not forget the main on/off power switch. If you take a peak at the rear panel, you will get your first sense of the many different possibilities of this receiver. One scart connector for connecting the receiver to a TV, there are also two satellite IF outputs, S-video Jacks, a UHF modulator, an RS-232 serial interface as well as three RCA Jacks for video and audio outputs. The remote control sits nicely in your hand and comes with all operative buttons. In general, the workmanship of this box leaves a very good impression. TM150 digital satellite receiver has the capacity of maximum 3000 TV and radio channels.

Turning on the receiver provides the first surprise for the proud owner that the Truman TM150 is already preprogrammed with numerous satellites. We scanned the Asiasat 3S for the first time and found 224 channels in less than 2 minutes. In addition to English, French, Turkish, Arabic and Russian, you can also select from Persian, Hungarian, Indonesian, Greek and Albanian languages. The on-screen display (OSD) of this receiver presents itself in a clear and easy-to-understand manner. All functions are easy to access in the main menu. If you are not satisfied with the preprogrammed satellites, you can of course add more. You can choose from European and Asian satellites although the included transponder data is not all that up-to-date. Additional satellites can be manually added. The channel scan is very flexible. The receiver can scan for all channels (CAS and FTA) or just for FTA channels. This receiver also support the networking scanning. For the more experienced users, there is even the ability to directly enter in PID codes manually.

The TM150 is Ku-band and C-band compatible. If a different LNB is connected to the receiver, the required LOF values can either be selected from the included list or can be set up manually. The DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.2 protocol is supported for the control of a motorized antenna. Sadly the more comfortable DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS) is not supported. The TM150 comes with a programmable 0/12 volt output. TM150 also supports the fiber optic modulator system.

The video signal is provided in either CVBS or RGB in the color standards PAL or NTSC. The automatic switching between PAL and NTSC occurs without any difficulties, so that there would be nothing in the way of receiving any feeds, since this receiver is SCPC and MCPC compatible. Symbolrates starting at 2.45ms/sec were no problem in our tests and also comes with a fairly sensitive tuner. Keeping in mind that this receiver is a pure FTA box and that the listing of pay TV channels can be omitted, this amount (3000) of channel memory should be enough.

The channel list is very clearly designed and easy to use. Switching between channels occurs very quickly with hardly any noticeable delays. Various changes to the channel list can be directly accessed via the yellow function button on the remote control. Channels can be rename, move, lock, skip and deleted. Channels can also be marked so that they will be skipped over while others can be locked out with a PIN code so that younger ones should not see the adult channels. Popular channels can be moved into favourite list, so that they can be easily recalled at a later time with the push of a button. The channel list can also be sorted either alphabetically or by CAS/FTA just like with other receivers. TM150 is fully compliant with DVB-S and MPEG-2 with ST microelectronics ST15518 chip processor. The Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) provides information on current as well as upcoming programmes. TM150 has the ability of plug and play self installing programmes by automatic scanning. Despite all of these features, the user manual remained easy to understand and provides all the necessary information. The included event timer can be programmed to your needs in just thing you need. If there is nothing to watch and you are feeling bore, the integrated video games will give you the best company. The extraordinary feature include that the receiver has the capability of changing TV mode, video output, screen mode, screen format, UHF mode and UHF channel.

The Truman TM150 is a truly uncomplicated satellite receiver that would be perfect as a family receiver. Thanks to the logically designed remote control, all of this unit’s numerous features are easily accessible. It is unfortunate that DiSEqC 1.1 was not supported, quick access to satellites would have been possible. Having so many unique features, this should make it extremely hard to pass up if you are in the market for a new receiver.
