Test Report for EUROSTAR ALFA GOLD DIGITAL – AD 7300 + Digital Satellite Receiver

EUROSTAR ALFA GOLD DIGITAL – AD 7300 + Digital Satellite Receiver

Just unpacking this receiver from the box already gives you the impression that the Eurostar AD 7300 + is a classic, elegant and impressive cabinet receiver. In addition to the four-digit display that shows either the current time or the channel number, there is also a seven segment display for operation of this receiver without the remote control.

The AD 7300 + is fully MPEG-2 / DVB compliant. The current channel number (up to 4800) is shown in an easy to read display. The rear connector panel comes with all of the standard Jacks you would expect to find. Video and audio is available on two scart connectors and three RCA Jacks. The IF signal from the LNB is looped through so that a second analog receiver could at some point be connected. The serial interface can be used to upload new receiver software or updated transponder data.

Communicating with this receiver should not be a problem. The available OSD languages are English, Arabic, Persian, French, Russian, German, Spanish and Italian. And if this is still not good enough, additional languages can be added to the list. Menu transparency and menu time out can be adjusted to your personal tastes.

There are no limits to selecting the correct local oscillator frequency. All known values for the C-band and Ku-band are directly selectable. For the S-band etc, these values need to be entered manually. DiSEqC 1.2 permits the use of this receiver with a motorized system. 64 satellites are preprogrammed with up to date data.

With the automatic channel scan you have the choice of scanning one satellite or multiple satellites. You can also choose to search for all channels or for networks. Even if the scan looks for all channels, a simple push of the button can select between FTA and CAS. MCPC and SCPC signals are automatically recognized, and displayed both 4:3 and 16:9 picture formats are also available.

The Edit menu serves to organize every thing that has been found. Channels can be deleted, moved, rename, lock and skip with small screen. Experienced users will be happy with the manual PID entry capability. Popular channels can be moved into favorites lists and there are eight of these. A simple push of a button is all that is needed to access a desired channel. Programming information is provided by the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) weekly and it may be extended. Switching between channels is quite fast making channel surfing fun. The most important function can be directly accessed via the remote control. This makes browsing through the menus to find what you want necessary. If your TV does not have its own teletext decoder, then you can simply use the integrated decoder in the AD 7300 +. Symbol rates starting at 2.45Ms/sec can be handled easily.

Unfortunately, the more user friendly DiSEqC 1.3 (USALS) protocol is not supported. Owners of multifeed antennas with more than four LNB’s are also out of luck since this box does not support DiSEqC 1.1 and also does not come with a programmable 0/12 volt output. Kids may be kept away from adult programs by using the parental control function. If you go on vacation and don’t want to miss any of your favorite TV series, the included eight-event timer that can be programmed to your needs is just the thing you need. Channels may be sorted by name, sorted by satellite and sorted by free/scrambled. Software may be downloaded through PC. The TV signals from the AD 7300 + is available in either CVBS or RGB formats. S-Video or YUV outputs for connection to a flat screen TV or projection standard is not available. The volume and audio track may be saved easily.

The on-screen display (OSD) of this box is easy to read and very logically designed. If there is nothing to watch and you are feeling bore, the integrated video games will really give you a good company. The AD 7300 + is an elegant, handy and very easy to use receiver. It is definitely living room compatible and should be no problem for anyone in the family to use.
