Eycos S55.12.PVRH:

The youngest Eycos receiver deserves the description Quantum leap' without a doubt. Countless owners of plasma or LCD screens are furious about the often miserable video quality of many free-to-air satellite channels and doubt they have made a wise move by investing lots of money into state-of-heart screens which are fed by low-quality satellite channels. The design of the S55.12 PVRH can best be described as unpretentious but elegant. The front panel sports an extremely easy to-read alphanumeric display (VFD) as well as eight buttons to operate the receiver without using the remote control. A flap in the middle of the lower half of the front panel hides two CI slots for all standard modules such as Irdeto, Seca, Viaccess, Conax, Nagravision etc. There is also a blind slot for an integrated card reader and Eycos is expected to offer this particular model with embedded Conax in the near future.

Fortec Star Mercury 11 Receiver:

The Mercury II is powered by an NEC 61114 processor, and has two meg of flash ram, with 16 meg of sdram. Quite a bit of power packed into a nice little case, and this unit uses it to produce lots of cool "why didn’t they think of that before?" features. This unit has lots of goodies a true FTA head needs including: Power scan, AC-3 optical output, USALS / DiSEqC motor compatibility, Component and S-video outputs with Universal remote (very nice touch). Looking at the front of the unit the first thing you notice are the 8 buttons on the front. These buttons control the following: on/off, channel up/ down, volume up/down, a MENU button which allows access to all the important menu functions, and a cancel button which is also used with the menus. Even if your dog just ate the remote, you can still control the the most important aspects of the receiver from the front panel, including sat installation, scanning, etc.

The AF-9330PVR is a new addition to satellite industry. No buttons are visible, but the basic on/off, menu and volume controls are available under a ?ap, which also hides the one Irdeto CAS embedded and two common interface slots. An VFD display shows various information, the most important being the channel number and the recording status. Unusually, the receiver is supplied with two remote controls. The ?rst is a good-looking, long silver unit. The second remote control is very small in size, containing only the most basic controls to for the channel, volume, recording and playback functions. At the rear panel of the receiver, one can find 0/12V output is present, and DiSEqC 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 are supported along with the USALS protocol.
