OPENSAT 3000CRCI

The “OPENSAT 3000CRCI PVR” is a small “CI receiver” with “PVR“. It has unusually small dimensions and there fore fits into any living room environment. The front panel features a four digit segment display and in the upper left corner the standby button. All other buttons and slots are hidden behind a flap. If you open this flap it reveals seven buttons to operate the receiver without remote control, a CI slot for all standard modules like Irdeto, Seca, Viaccess, Cryptoworks or Nagravision, a Conax card reader as well as a USB interface. The back panel is equally well designed and sports the usual satellite IF input and loop-through output, 2 scart euro connectors, 4 RCA jacks for stereo audio and video, a 0/12 control current, an optical digital audio output , a UHF modulator output, an RS-232 interface and a mechanical mains switch. The remote control that comes with the receiver sits well in your hand, boasts a convenient design and proper labelling. Even though the on-screen menu of the OPENSAT receiver is more or less self-explanatory the manufacturer provides a comprehensive user’s manual which solves any questions that still may arise. It “deals” with all functions and options of the receiver and provides screen shots and illustrations where necessary. The overall build quality of the 3000CRCI is very good and we had no complaints what so ever with the unit we received for testing.

NanoXX 9400

This pretty silver coloured satellite receiver with the name NanoXX 9400 has a very compact size. Not too big, but big enough to fit in all important sockets and jacks including two scart euro connectors on the back panel. On the front this receiver sports the standard control keys plus two CI slots and two smartcard slots (licensed for Conax and X-Crypt) which can easily be accessed. The electronic program guide (EPG) is of the comprehensive kind as well. Altogether four channels are displayed with their current and following events of up to one week in advance, including detailed program information. We were delighted that all data appeared on screen without a noticeable delay! The arrow buttons can be used to access the appropriate EPG data and a single touch of a button is all that is required to mark an event for the internal timer what a change from the analog days when setting a timer was almost like rocket science. Using teletext is just as much fun as all pages are read and stored after an initial touch of the Teletext button and are ready for reading right away. Subpages, however, only show up one at a time, even though this is not a short coming of the NanoXX box but the result of TV stations transmitting only one subpage with every complete teletext run.

Eycos S50.12 PVR

We were very excited while opening the package and the initial impression from looking at the outside of the receiver did not disappoint us. Sleek but elegant is the best way to describe the S50.12 PVR. The front panel sports a four-digit display as well as eight buttons for complete operation of the receiver should the remote control go missing. Behind a centrally located flap are hidden a pair of CI slots that can be used with a variety of modules (Irdeto, Seca, Viaccess, Conax, Nagravision, etc.) The nicely equipped rear panel also put a smile on our faces. Below the display can be found a set of five buttons that let you operate the receiver if no remote control is at hand.
